Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) with the vision of diversifying our student base, has a strategic objective of catering to foreign students and providing opportunities for them to study at SLTC. Hence we have pursued our established relationships to open up a few seats for the student intake of July 2021. 





With the prospect of reactivating relations with Nepal that were officially established back in 2019 during Nepal visit by SLTC, the Office of Research and International Affairs (ORIA) of SLTC   strategically introduced a scholarship programme for Nepali students. This initiative is one of its series of new collaborations that will be strengthened during ‘the new normal’ and to promote SLTC as a destination for higher education among South Asian students.









Under this programme, currently three (03) Nepali students; out of the two students with a full scholarship and one student with a semi- scholarship are reading for Bachelor of Science Hons in Data Science and Bachelor of Science Hons in Software Engineering and the lectures are offered online. We are looking forward to having the students on campus soon enabling them to meet their fellow SLTCiants and exposing them to real university experience at SLTC.



Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) held its Research and Innovation Awards Night – RaIN 2021 on 7 April 2021 at the SLTC Padukka Campus. The event felicitated achievers who have won international and national recognition for research and innovation. The event was graced by Hon Min. Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth & Sports, as Chief Guest and Minister of Trade Hon Min Dr. Bandula Goonewardena, Hon. Nipuna Ranawaka, Member of Parliament.





RAIN 2021 recognised SLTC’s best performing researchers, staff and students, especially those who have shown exceptional performance in terms of research in the past years.





Key achievements recognized at the event included SLTC being ranked as 19th in Sri Lanka in Webometrics rankings, publishing of 2 books and 5 book chapters, as well as individual performances such as publishing the Highest-Impact Factor paper in Engineering & Physics – 2019.















The very first two students of the SLTC Cloud Connect with Deakin programme visited Sri Lanka Technological Main Campus, Padukka for the first time.





Under this special programme, students will be taught by Deakin lecturers and attend classes online with other Deakin students in Australia and around the world. SLTC lecturers will guide the students through the tutorials and provide the academic support required for them to succeed in their courses.  











Enhancing Governance, Management and Reform in Sri Lankan Universities through Non-Academic Staff Training/ENACT is a project funded with the support of the Ersamus+ Programme of the European Union





As a partner of the project ENACT, SLTC with the overall objective of widening the consultation on the training and improvement needed in order to strengthen the non-academic system, processes and structures in the operations of the Sri Lankan universities, conducted university level stakeholder buy-in- events in the month of March April 2021





SLTC ENACT project team under the supervision of SLTC Project Manager for ENACT, Dr. Nanda Gunawardhana conducted 4 sessions of round table discussions including representatives from Senior management, High-level administration, non-academic staff, Teaching staff and students.







SLTC opened its fully-fledged research lab complex at its Padukka Campus premises on 18th February 2021. The event was graced by Hon Minister Professor G L Peiris, Minister of Education as the chief guest, and Minister of Trade Hon Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena as the special guest.





Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Principal Advisor to His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, Council Member of Sri Lanka Technological Campus, was also present at this occasion.

The event coincided with the unveiling of the University crest and the 2025 infrastructure development blueprint of SLTC incorporating all enhancements in progress as well as projected to materialize in the foreseeable future. 10 students were felicitated for outstanding performance in research and innovations, best final year projects and international competition wins while 12 staff awards including Outstanding Research Award, Emerging Young Researcher and STLC President’s Research Award were distributed among members of faculty.











The kickoff meeting of the TEAL 2.O project, received under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education Programme, was held from 4th to 6th March, 2020 at Oak Ray Regency, Kandy.  This event was organized and hosted by University of Peradeniya and was successfully held with the participation of representatives from 12 partner universities. The project TEAL 2.O spanning for three years focuses on “Improving the access to science and technology higher education in resource-poor institutions through an open platform for technology enabled active learning environment”. As such, a modular and open technology enabled active learning platform will be collaboratively developed, and relevant teaching and learning content will be designed to suit the needs of variety of users.





The purpose of this meeting was to reach a consensus on how the development of the platform will be carried out. In this regard, the coordinator of the project, the team from University of Peradeniya presented an overview of the project, task allocations per work package and the tentative work plan, etc., and accordingly, important decisions were made on planning of the development activities, task allocation among partners and organizing the next stakeholder buy in roundtable workshops. Dr. Gergana Dimitrova from the European Center for Quality delivered online presentations on financial management of the project, procurement procedures and dissemination. All the partner universities presented on their expected contribution to the TEAL 2.O project and raised concerns regarding several aspects of the project





Dr. Nanda Gunawardena, Director of International Affairs and Research Division of SLTC, Dr. Dushantha Nalin Jayakody, Head of School of Postgraduate studies, Dr. Dhammika Elkaduwe, Consultant, School of IT & Computing, Mr. Charith Jayanetti, Dr. Nuwan Vithanage and Dr. Eranji Jayaweera took part in the meeting representing the STLC. They actively participated in the discussions held regarding the development of the platform, technical aspects and task allocations etc.  Dr. Sanjeewa Maithripala from Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Peradeniya, who is also the Consultant for Research and Academic Affairs Division of the SLTC, played a significant role from convening to holding of the kickoff meeting.



The inaugural meeting of the EU funded capacity building project on “Developing Inclusive Education for students with disabilities in Sri Lankan Universities (IncEdu)” was held from 26th to 28th of February 2020 at the Hotel Topaz, Kandy. This meeting was organized by a team headed by Prof. Anoma Abhayaratne, University of Peradeniya, and was attended by participants from four well renowned European Universities; Masaryk University, Czech Republic, Zagreb University of Croatia, Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania and Uppsala University of Sweden, and four universities from Sri Lanka; University of Peradeniya University of Ruhuna, Eastern University and Sri Lanka Technological Campus.





The IncEdu project addresses an important issue in higher education in Sri Lanka that has not received adequate attention.  It intends to develop a system of support for equalising opportunities for students with disabilities in Sri Lankan Universities. The main activities of the project during the period of 3 years, include, creating community awareness, develop the competency of staff of the partner universities in Sri Lanka and to establish a model support centre with the required equipment and assistive technology. It is expected that the project will have a greater impact and create more opportunities for students with disabilities in higher education by increased community/society awareness of rights, needs and requirements of those students in accessing higher education.





Dr. Nanada Gunawardhana, Director, International Affairs and Research Division of the SLTC, Dr. L. Udugama, Dr. Shamini Perera, Mr. Dimuthu Pathiraja, Ms. Manduli Katugampola, Ms. Vishmi Nanayakkara and Dr. Eranji Jayaweera attended the meeting representing the SLTC.  On the first day of the meeting Dr. L. Udugama and Ms. Manduli Katugampola delivered an introductory presentation of the SLTC and how SLTC will contribute to this IncEdu project. Dr. Shamini Perera presented on how “Coaching and Mentoring” could be effectively used to achieve the objectives of this project. On the third and final day of the meeting, Dr. Nanda Gunawardhana, briefed on the “Financial Management of the Grant”







A delegation of representatives from several top ranked Chinese Universities visited Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Padukka on the 14th of December, 2019 for a presentation and discussion on University Education in China. They had sessions with the students and members of the staff. Representatives from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology and the China University of Mining and Technology did comprehensive presentations on their respective establishments, introducing their teaching and research capabilities and Scholarship opportunities.





The discussions led by Professor Dushantha Nalin, Head of School of Postgraduate Studies were joined by representatives from the Centre for Research and Innovative Services (CRIS) and the Office of International Affairs. During the meeting, both parties had extensive discussions on
possible academic and research collaborations leading to staff and student exchanges in the near future. The delegates, after concluding the first round of discussions, toured the campus and the National Telecommunication Museum.







Prof. Partha Roop, Associate Dean (International) and Mr. Ryan Gamon, International Manager for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland (UoA) visited the Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Padukka on the 13 th December 2019 to finalize the 2+2 articulation agreement in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and to discuss the way forward.





The discussions led by Mr. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe, President & CEO of SLTC, was mainly focused on successfully launching the said program in Sri Lanka and in formulating marketing strategies to attract top students across the island with interests in studying in the Australasian region. Prof. Partha also noted the possibility of SLTC’s top performers to directly enter the University of Auckland’s Doctoral program on full scholarships. Acknowledging Prof. Partha’s initiative, Dr. Udesh Oruthota, Director of Academic Resources at SLTC inquired on the prospect of initiating a staff exchange program. Furthermore, Mr. Gamon emphasizing on the importance of the partnership, noted that SLTC was in-fact the only academic Institution, UOA has entered into such
a comprehensive partnership with, in the South Asian region.





The delegates also had an informative session with potential students where Mr. Gamon gave an introduction to the University and gave an outlook of the student life in New Zealand and Prof. Partha as a Professor at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering introduced the areas of research, UOA is currently interested in and the opportunities that await them at
Auckland.







Prof. Shrestha, the Head of External Affairs & Global Engagement and a Professor in Mechanical

Engineering at the Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, visited Sri Lanka on the 1 st of December

2019 to further develop the collaborative framework between KU and SLTC. He had a series of

meetings with Mr. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom, Mr. Ranjith Rubasinghe,

President of SLTC and Dr. Nanda Gunawardane, Director, Research and International Affairs of

SLTC at the SLTC City Campus in Colombo, following their meeting in Kathmandu, earlier this year.

During the discussions, the two institutions reached a consensus on academic collaborations such

as credit transfers, staff /students exchanges and establishing research collaborations.





In recognition of the lack of education in the field of sanitation, technology in Sri Lanka, Prof.

Shrestha proposed an elective course to be designed by KU and to be delivered online to students

at SLTC and based on the response to offer a more comprehensive program on the subject.

Furthermore, on the invitation of Prof. Shrestha, the representatives of SLTC attended the closing

ceremony of the workshop facilitated by IHE Delft, Netherland with support from Bill Gates and

Melinda Foundation at the BMICH on the 4th of December 2019.
