Upon an invitation of SLTC, a team of delegates from Deakin University, Australia visited SLTC Research University, Trace Expert City on the 15th of February 2023.

SLTC- Deakin Partnership since 2020 has flourished especially with the increasing number of SLTC students transferred to Deakin to pursue the final years of their degree programs. 





Currently, those students who complete their first year/ first two years at SLTC in the disciplines of Engineering and IT can apply to Deakin, via 2+2 and 1+ 2 transfer programs.





During Eng. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe's visit to Deakin last December 2022, expressed his interest in expanding the transfer programs for Business and Management degrees. In addition to this, discussions had also been held regarding the availability of opportunities for students who would complete the SLTC Foundation program and then continue the 2+2 transfer program. 





During the Deakin delegates' visit, these new proposals  were further discussed with the participation of the SLTC team ;

SLTC SSAPI project team recently joined a series of project meetings that were hosted by the Maldivian partners to the project; Villa College and Maldivian National University from 05th to 09th February 2023. 





The meetings were also attended by other partners from Germany, Portugal, Bhutan, and Pakistan.

The members were able to review the progress achieved during the last 20 months of the project and had comprehensive meetings to discuss the action plan for the rest of the project period.



A team from SLTC Enact project team attended a transnational training program at Gottingen University, German from 16 th Jan to 20th Jan 2023. The ENACT Project - Enhancing Governance, Management and Reform in Sri Lankan Universities through Non-Academic Staff Training is a project funded with the support of the Ersamus+ Programme of the European Union.





ENACT focuses on the problems and inefficiencies in the Sri Lankan higher education system via the capacity building of the non-academic workforce. The key aim of the project is to enhance the governance, management, and quality, of university education in Sri Lanka by building the capacity of non-academic staff to enhance organizational performance and to support current and future modernization efforts and reforms in higher education.





During this visit, the training program covered the following topics under University Administration, Management & Governance






  • Higher Education Human Resources Management in Europe: EU Countries
    Experiences/Practices Sharing with Q&A




  • Higher Education Strategic Plan / Institutional Strategy in the EU context




  • Organizational Development and Governance




  • University infrastructure and service management

The third management meeting of the ENACT project was also held during this visit where the project partners discussed the activities planned for the year and the progress of the last year.











Education for teaching and non-teaching staff workshop, under the IncEdu Project, was conducted on 12 - 16 December 2022 at the University of Peradeniya.





IncEdu project, Developing Inclusive Education for Students with Disabilities in Sri Lankan Universities, is dedicated to enhancing the learning space for students with disabilities (SWDs) in Sri Lankan universities (national universities and private institutions) and providing them with facilities and other requirements in relation to their disabilities. The project aims to address related issues by increasing awareness among stakeholders, including academic and non-academic staff at the university and policymakers in higher education, strengthening the capacity of the universities to provide services to facilitate the needs and requirements of those students, and creating a supportive learning environment for the students with disabilities.





The workshop was set up to disseminate information from international training events that were held in Brasov and Croatia. Over 80 academic and non-academic staff members from Sri Lanka as well as four Eu Partners from the University of Zagreb took part in the Workshop.











Antonio Di Martino PhD held a Master's degree in Industrial Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy, and a PhD in Chemistry and Material Technology from Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Czech Republic. He is currently an Associate Professor at Tomsk Polytechnic University, and among his duties, he holds second-year Master's degree courses in physics and chemistry of coating materials and processes and advanced materials. He is a Senior Researcher in the encapsulation of bioactive compounds in polymers matrixes, with a particular interest in developing innovative formulations for the targeted delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients.





During his stay at SLTC, he contributed to the below series of guest lectures and interacted with the students and staff in promoting research performed by Tomsk Polytechnic University.

Prof. Di Martino was also able to participate in the “Agricultural Machinery Day” at SLTC where he was given the opportunity to practical applications in the cultivated lands and engage in discussions with the academics of the School of Technology/Science/Agriculture on the possibility of joint ventures and research in the areas of smart agriculture and biosystems engineering.





In addition to the activities mentioned above, Prof. Di Martino engaged in discussions with the relevant stakeholders representing top management, academic affairs and international affairs of the SLTC Research University in exploring the potential future academic collaborations while also exploring the opportunities for staff/student exchange programmes and the supervision of design projects of the final year students. As a result, he was actively involved in signing a formal Memorandum of Understanding to foster goodwill between the two institutions.







IncEdu project members of the SLTC participated in a training programme that was held in Transilvania University of Brasov from 31st October 2022 to 04th November 2022.

The team was able to join the Project partners meeting that was held  during their stay in Brasov.











During an official visit to Croatia, Dr Nanda Gunawardhana, Director of International Affairs visited the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, Croatia to meet  Ms. Marija Šimunović, Ms. Zrinka Udiljak Bugarinovsk





and the team. 





SLTC entered into an MOU with the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb in March 2022. 









Since then as partners both the institutions worked closely in numerous joint collaborations. One such significant collaboration is the role played by the University of Zagreb as a collaborator to the 2nd Virtual International Conference on Library & Information Science  (VICLIS 2022) organized by the SLTC Research University on the 25th of October 2022. In addition, Ms. Zrinka Udiljak Bugarinovsk co- chaired the conference while Ms Marija Šimunović and the team supported the organizing team of the VICLIS 2022 led by Mr Hasitha Koralage ; Librarian of SLTC  by reviewing the conference papers and at the same time chairing parallel sessions held during the conference. Dr. Gunawardhana during his visit further discussed the areas of collaborations that can make the partnerships between the two institutions stronger. 



In celebration of the global Erasmus+ Programme in Europe and beyond on October 13, 14 and 15, SLTC Research University organized SLTC ERASMUS DAY on the 14th of October 2022 at the Padukka university premises and this was the only event organized by a Sri Lankan university for the year 2022.





The event was graced by the H.E. Dr. Victor Chiujdea, His Excellency the Ambassador, Embassy of Romania for Sri Lanka and Hon. Mr. Lars Bredal, Chargé d’Affaires, European Union to Sri Lanka & Maldives, delegates from Embassy of Germany, and other well-wishers.





#ERASMUS DAYs is a celebration for European countries and their friends from around the world to organize an event, share Erasmus experience or spread the word about the collaborative work and projects supporting the various topics and areas. SLTC is the only non- state university in Sri Lanka to be part of four Erasmus+ projects in the domains of technology enabled active learning (TEAL2.O), non -academic staff capacity building (ENACT), inclusive education (INCEDU) and accreditation and internationalization (SSAPI). As a result of these projects, SLTC established a TEAL classroom, and a Special Needs Support Centre, obtained equipment and participated in transnational meetings and events held in several European countries. SLTC has close collaborations with European partner universities and institutions and has developed partnerships for student and staff mobility programmes. Erasmus+ projects not only support the partners in these projects, but they also pave the way for further collaborations between the universities.





The event was also attended by the project members representing the University of Peradeniya, University of Rajarata, University of Ruhuna, University of Moratuwa and the Eastern University of Sri Lanka.











TOT and Knowledge Sharing Session, under the IncEdu Project, was conducted on 18 August 2022. The session was organized to share the knowledge of transnational training sessions that took place in the Czech Republic under the IncEdu Project. Over 20 academic and non-academic staff members participated in the event. The programme included,
