A delegation of representatives from several top ranked Chinese Universities visited Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Padukka on the 14th of December, 2019 for a presentation and discussion on University Education in China. They had sessions with the students and members of the staff. Representatives from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology and the China University of Mining and Technology did comprehensive presentations on their respective establishments, introducing their teaching and research capabilities and Scholarship opportunities.





The discussions led by Professor Dushantha Nalin, Head of School of Postgraduate Studies were joined by representatives from the Centre for Research and Innovative Services (CRIS) and the Office of International Affairs. During the meeting, both parties had extensive discussions on
possible academic and research collaborations leading to staff and student exchanges in the near future. The delegates, after concluding the first round of discussions, toured the campus and the National Telecommunication Museum.







Prof. Partha Roop, Associate Dean (International) and Mr. Ryan Gamon, International Manager for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland (UoA) visited the Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Padukka on the 13 th December 2019 to finalize the 2+2 articulation agreement in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and to discuss the way forward.





The discussions led by Mr. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe, President & CEO of SLTC, was mainly focused on successfully launching the said program in Sri Lanka and in formulating marketing strategies to attract top students across the island with interests in studying in the Australasian region. Prof. Partha also noted the possibility of SLTC’s top performers to directly enter the University of Auckland’s Doctoral program on full scholarships. Acknowledging Prof. Partha’s initiative, Dr. Udesh Oruthota, Director of Academic Resources at SLTC inquired on the prospect of initiating a staff exchange program. Furthermore, Mr. Gamon emphasizing on the importance of the partnership, noted that SLTC was in-fact the only academic Institution, UOA has entered into such
a comprehensive partnership with, in the South Asian region.





The delegates also had an informative session with potential students where Mr. Gamon gave an introduction to the University and gave an outlook of the student life in New Zealand and Prof. Partha as a Professor at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering introduced the areas of research, UOA is currently interested in and the opportunities that await them at
Auckland.







Prof. Shrestha, the Head of External Affairs & Global Engagement and a Professor in Mechanical

Engineering at the Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, visited Sri Lanka on the 1 st of December

2019 to further develop the collaborative framework between KU and SLTC. He had a series of

meetings with Mr. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom, Mr. Ranjith Rubasinghe,

President of SLTC and Dr. Nanda Gunawardane, Director, Research and International Affairs of

SLTC at the SLTC City Campus in Colombo, following their meeting in Kathmandu, earlier this year.

During the discussions, the two institutions reached a consensus on academic collaborations such

as credit transfers, staff /students exchanges and establishing research collaborations.





In recognition of the lack of education in the field of sanitation, technology in Sri Lanka, Prof.

Shrestha proposed an elective course to be designed by KU and to be delivered online to students

at SLTC and based on the response to offer a more comprehensive program on the subject.

Furthermore, on the invitation of Prof. Shrestha, the representatives of SLTC attended the closing

ceremony of the workshop facilitated by IHE Delft, Netherland with support from Bill Gates and

Melinda Foundation at the BMICH on the 4th of December 2019.







Danny
O’Missenden, Partnerships Manager (Development & Oversight) and Sally
Day, International Partnerships Officer from the University of Essex visited
Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Padukka on the 8th November 2019, initiating
discussions on future collaborations between the two institutions and a
possible partnership in launching postgraduate programs on Economics and
Business Management.





The
discussion led by Dr. Sanjeewa Maithripala, Consultant for Research and
Academic Affairs and Professor Anoma Abhayaratne, SLTC Business School was
joined by other senior academics and representatives from the School of Postgraduate
Studies and the Office of International Affairs.





Furthermore,
Professor Abhayaratne, an alumna of the University of Essex pointed out the
need for economics programs which focus on the Sri Lankan higher education
market and the upsurge of local think tanks and their efforts in introducing
studies on development and managerial economics to the island’s public and
private sector. The President & CEO of SLTC, Mr. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe
joining the discussion further clarified SLTC’s commitment in creating a
liberal environment for research and learning in Sri Lanka.







Dr. G. R. Sinha, a Professor from IIIT Bangalore, India deputed to MIIT Mandalay Myanmar successfully concluded a four day visit to Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Padukka on the 9th November 2019 as the first of many academic visits and collaborations during his tenure as a visiting professor.





Dr. Sinha, an exceptional senior scholar with interests varying from Medical Image Analysis to Outcome based Education, is believed to contribute and enrich SLTC’s academic community’s intellectual and research endeavours and international projections. During his stay, together with the SLTC’s faculty, the Visiting Professor conducted workshops on writing research grant proposals and book proposals, a series of lectures on Medical image processing and OBE and finally panel discussions with members of the faculty and the administration. In acknowledging Professor Sinha’s contribution to the campus, the President & CEO, Mr. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe presented him with a certificate of appreciation and encouraged further collaborations.
